An Outstanding Mindset of Serving God in a Foreign Land

What does it take to be faithful and fruitful in God’s work even in a foreign land?  Paul spoke about it: “And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I would build on another man’s foundation.” (Romans 15:20. At Waterbury, our sister Candie Martikainen has adopted the same ministry mindset as Paul. Over the years, she has made that trip to Guatemala to do God’s good work. This is a report she sent our way about her work: “Greetings from the land of Eternal Spring. It is hard to believe, but tomorrow is our last day of teaching English in Guatemala. The time has gone by so quickly. Again, we would love to update you about a couple of our students, so you can continue to pray for them. Christopher is 34 years old. This is the second year he is studying English with WEI. He doesn’t know who his father is, and he was put into an orphanage for two years until he was adopted by his aunt, who already had three sons. He said he was treated as a servant by his aunt. He was baptized into the Mormon church because he wanted to be part of a community. Christopher believes all religions are good because God is love. He is a very good student. He always has his homework done and done correctly.  Next week, we will continue this report from Sister Candie. As we can see, there is much to pray about. Thank you, Sister Candie! VHH
