Living and Expecting God’s Way of Healing

For I am the Lord, your healer (Exodus 15:26)

So often in life, broken things get thrown away. The product was sought out, paid for, and cherished for a while. But it was broken, lost its usefulness, and soon discarded. By now, if we have walked with God for a while, we know that the Lord our God specializes in restoring and fixing lives that are broken by life’s trails and troubles. God doesn’t simply throw us away. By name, God promises to heal His people. God is Jehovah-Rapha: The Lord who heals. The generation that came out of Egyptian bondage was battered, beat down, and bruised by their enslaved and impoverished existence. So, it was important that they allow God to heal their wounds. This is what God wanted to do: “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer” (Exodus 15:26). God desires to heal, makes a promise to heal, has the power to heal, and sets forth His way of healing. In this text, God’s way of healing calls for absolute and unwavering obedience to His Word. But herein is the problem, hurting people largely focus on being comforted and consoled – not on their obedience. But God declares, obey Me and I will make things better. Let’s accept God’s way of healing!  VHH
