These days, so many people are fighting battles for their mental and emotional health. Mental health is all about our “overall psychological well-being, while emotional health refers to your ability to handle and express your emotions.” And in both areas, far too many of us are feeling
defeated. No doubt, it’s relatively easy to force out a smile, but it’s so much more challenging to face today’s problems and pressures and maintain real joy and peace from within. Paul’s letter to the Philippians is in many ways, a Bible-based manual on how to maintain a joyful spirit in a world full of many conditions and circumstances that come against our mental and emotional we-being.
We have just kicked off a verse-by-verse study on Philippians. I’m convinced that our members at Waterbury will find this study to be truthful and timely. It’s truthful because it sets forth sound instructions and insights from God’s Word of truth. And it’s timely because it speaks directly and specifically to the battles we are fighting – right now – in our mind and emotions. The theories and concepts that the world recommends for our mental and emotional health are not altogether wrong. They help! But the Scriptures provide the ultimate guide on how to keep ourselves spiritually and holistically well. The Holy Spirit can, and will, use this study of Philippians to reaffirm God’s call on your life to live joyfully in Jesus Christ, and His Church.
Already, we are gaining so much vital truth at this point, and there’s so much more to come as we go deeper in this study. I’m so thankful to God that our members are coming together to explore Paul’s letter to the Philippians. No doubt, as we take in the valuable truths found in this Letter, we’re going to be educated and empowered to tap into God’s power for our mental and emotional health. It’s still early in this study. Show up and take full advantage of this opportunity to learn God’s will and way for you to be joyfully at peace from the inside out. VHH
