The Sacrifice That Displayed God’s Timely Supply

Take now your son, your only son Isaac…and offer him there as a burnt offering. (Genesis 22:2)
“Lord, is this really coming from you?” “My God, are you really asking me to do this?” “Dear God, this is just too much to require of me!” These are some typical responses that Abraham could have uttered to God. We say it! When God calls us to make big sacrifices, we tend to offer God a little push back. Even if it’s in our thoughts and thinking. We may embrace the test given our understanding of God’s absolute sovereignty over our lives, but in our minds, we feel that God owes us some type of clarifying explanation. But the obedience of Abraham to this unthinkable request was instant and without any rebuttal. Don’t forget! Isaac was the son of promise through which God’s seed promise would be fulfilled. God declared to Abraham: “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son” (Genesis 18:14). Of course, we know all about the faithfulness of Abraham, and his words about God: And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide.” (Genesis 22:14). This is the timeless truth that we must determine to live by; God’s call for us to sacrifice is God’s invitation for us to receive His amazing supply. Nothing is gained from holding on to what God calls us to sacrifice to Him. But so much is forfeited, we forfeit the abundant God ordained provisions that come with our sacrifice. Yes, we serve a God who calls us to sacrifice, but more so, we serve a God who supplies our needs. VHH
